Soy Product #5
I was never a fan of chicken nuggets. I always found that there was something off about the taste, and when I did eat them, I was usually given a substandard, extremely low quality version served in my high school cafeteria (not that there really is a high quality chicken nugget…). Who knows where the chicken inside those nuggets came from, or if it was even chicken that they were stuffed with. Sometimes I’d actually find myself biting down on a piece of crunchy cartilage. The thoughts of what exactly might be ground up and thrown into chicken nuggets combined with the startling pieces of cartilage forced inside my mouth really turned me off from eating chicken nuggets all together.
However, I do enjoy chicken-free nuggets, especially when dipped in ketchup or BBQ sauce. While I don’t usually center my meal around these nuggets, they make a great protein-packed snack or side dish.
Just three of the nuggets pictured on the left contain 14 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber, with only 120 calories. While real chicken nuggets typically contain 10 grams of fat and 10% of your day’s cholesterol, grease-free, chicken-free nuggets only contain 2 grams of fat and zero cholesterol.
The chicken-free nuggets have a texture that is virtually identical to real chicken nuggets, without the cartilage, and taste pretty much like the flavor of whatever they are dipped into.
I particularly enjoy Health Is Wealth All Natural Chicken-Free Nuggets or Trader Joe’s Soy Nuggets because they are coated in whole wheat flour, instead of nutrient-free, refined white flour. If you’re looking for a quick, grease-free alternative to chicken nuggets or other fast food, check them out.

December 14, 2009 at 9:04 amLove the review. I did actually order a case or the mornigstar farms ones (not my fave, but what was on contract at the commissary). The options are limited so if I can order I do, but I have to order a case and it takes up a ton of space in the freezer.

December 14, 2009 at 3:41 pmYou know I have never tried a Chickenless Nugget–I have always assumed they are unhealthy–high in fat and nutritionally void like most chicken nuggets but you make me want to try them. 😉

December 14, 2009 at 9:49 pmAnything dipped in Ketchup is stellar with me haha!! Love it. You give such great reviews. Mine are pretty generic. And some of the ones I do aren’t stuff that I have all the time (at all!) or just sample them when sent – but that’s okay right? Cause the review is just for variety and interest 🙂
Now…must get chicken nuggets. I’m actually been thinking of KFC breaded chicken breast lately…I know horrible …but just up the street – it will happen 🙂 Cheers!
