If I had to narrow it down to one characteristic of San Francisco that really distinguishes the city, I’d have to say it’s all the beautiful houses that line its streets. San Francisco neighborhoods certainly don’t look like the typical suburban neighborhoods where all the houses are practically identical. Many of the houses have a unique beachy, Mexican sort of feel, while other show a lot of Victorian influences. Many of them sport bright pastel-colored exteriors, almost resembling those of Carribean shacks, but in no way do the overall appearances of the houses look anything like shacks. While most pink and purple houses would seem tacky in any other place but the tropics, in combination with the style of these houses, the colors actually accentuate their appearances.
On a completely different note, I’d also have to say I’m quite impressed with the trees of San Francisco. I’m particularly in love with the palm tree-lined streets. Many of the are incredibly beautiful and in such a different way from those on the East Coast. I’m in awe of how tall a lot of them are, seeming as though their branches can literally touch the clouds…Later today I’m going on a trip to check out the well-known monumental redwoods. Talk about tall trees…that should be a sight full of trees to remember!
(Sorry for the over-exposed pics…decided not to lug my SLR around all day.)
