I’ve had coconut milk straight from the coconut before, but I’ve never consumed coconut water from anything other than a juice box. Instead of coming from a dark brown coconut that’s reached its prime, coconut water is found within fresh young, green coconuts. Green coconuts have less actual coconut meat and encompass a slightly clearer liquid, nearly as sweet as that of an older coconut, but far lighter. Coconut water has recently hit many grocery and convenient stores and is actually becoming a new worldwide trend, due to its prized electrolytes and minimal calories/fat. It definitely beats Gatorade in both taste and nutrition.
When I ventured into the Brick Lane neighborhood of London, there was a man selling coconut water who hooked me into buying some from his stand. A tad more pungent than the store bought coconut water, this was definitely a hot afternoon delight. I also happened to meet two delightful individuals in the process of purchasing some of that mighty coconut water.

July 12, 2010 at 8:40 ammmm, I love this stuff! I bet it tasted so much better straight out of the fruit. I find that it has sort of a weird smell sometimes, but the taste is wonderful, especially in other recipes. It also helps a hangover 🙂
