I am a very hands-on person and love to create. I’ve always expressed this through playing around in the kitchen, and as I’ve grown older, messing around with a camera in my hands too.
What I enjoy most about cooking is that the options are endless. Fruit inย summer rolls? Let’s test it. Sesame tahini in cookies? Yes please. For me, cooking is all about experimenting, reaching beyond my basic know-how, and letting whatever’s fresh be the inspirational guide. I’m also often influenced by travels around the world.
While I love exploring new ingredient collaborations, I also run on simplicity. Life is busy, for all of us. And many times it’s the simplest dishes that taste the best anyway.
As I navigate my way around the grocery store, garden and into the kitchen, I aim to keep nutrition in mind. A healthy body is a happy one, and food is key. Moderation has always been my motto. But ice cream and (far too much) peanut butter are definitely a regular part of my regular routine.
I follow a pescetarian diet that errs on the side of vegan โ meatless meals with the occasional addition of seafood. Balance, sunshine, and fresh air keep me sane. In college, I thought it’d be fun to incorporate that into the title of this website โ my only regret of starting this food blog. (Hah!)
When I’m not delving into kitchen projects, you can catch me cruising on my bike with my camera strapped to my back. I am also a photographer and journalist, and food often slides into both of those realms.
Currently, I reside in Philadelphia. Come say hi if you’re in the area!

November 8, 2009 at 1:26 pmNamaste Grace Ji,
Last time when bumped into your blog was a very wrong time, coz i was hungry and your blog just talked about food, :oP. I was on flight from Baltimore to LA with a 4 hour stopover at Houston, and the only food which was served in the flight was nonveg, and i thought atleast i’ll get something at the airport but noway, the airport seemed like it was owned by continental airways and they dont like serving vegan, there was not even a single place serving vegetarian food and even a dish. And at the same time i opened up your blog and i was like, ooh no, all i could see was pictures off food that i couldn’t find. :).
Well i met everyone in your family but you, but i did see a part of in your room and your pictures and the wall in your room on which you had written all those colorfull things.
No doubt you do have a skill to write and its good that you opted for journalism, you are on the right track. This will take you to places if you stick around it.
Keep in touch,
Lali.

November 20, 2009 at 4:00 pmyou live in philly?? quite possibly my all time favorite food city. i have an unhealthy obsession with Bonte waffles (i need the recipe, sersiously) and Maoz falafel, but my favorites are Mercato (byo on spruce and 13th ish) and tarte (3rd and arch, near the betsy ross house – overpriced but deelish mini key lime pies and hazelnut tartes!). oh, and the mussels at monks!

December 11, 2009 at 8:36 pmI really love your blog. (I’m not even sure how I found it, but it’s definitely going in my “favorites” to check often.) I am, myself, dedicated to healthy living and a lifestyle centered on balance through yoga, healthy cooking, and outdoor activities. While I now live in New Zealand, I was born and raised in the states. Anyway, I look forward to your future posts as I thoroughly enjoyed going back and reading your past ones! December 25, 2009 at 8:46 amReally interesting blog. My idea of healthy living is also based on healthy eating (which in my opinion includes meat, too) and exercising. I do not like and support restrictive diets!

Keep up the good work!

December 30, 2009 at 2:09 pmI came across your blog by accident, following interesting sounding title links from blogs I already follow to other blogs, to other blogs, etc. I find some great sites that way!
Very nice blog; covers a lot of my interests:
Running – One of my greatest passions.
Health/Fitness – Ditto.
Nutrition – I’ve reduced meat consumption, considering vegetarian; on board with it philosphically, just haven’t quite made the leap.
Yoga – Just starting to learn a little; wanting to learn way more.
I also love art and poetry (although not an artist or poet) and the arts in general. I added Food-Fitness-FreshAir to my blog list, and look forward to reading more!

March 15, 2010 at 10:09 pmHi Grace! I just found your blog and I’m hooked. You have so many good things to say about cooking — which is rather daunting for lots of people in this day and age, myself included. At the moment I’m grappling with some turnips from my CSA box — I’ve never cooked them before! But, of course, I don’t need to look hard to figure out how to enjoy them properly. Please keep up the good work.

January 2, 2011 at 12:04 amHi Grace,
This is the FIRST TIME I have ever posted on someone’s blog. I saw your link to this website from your comment concerning the NYT article on using yoga to reduce hangover. I looked at your blog and found it interesting. Your core values are a lot in line with what I profess.
I read your entry on Kombucha as I am a big fan of that beverage as well. I would like to comment that in my area (Massachusetts) Kombucha was taken off the general market for several months from this summer on through most of the fall. I believe it was a labeling issue as laboratory analyses showed unacceptably high levels of alcohol in the product (no matter which manufacturer) which caused the product to be withdrawn. I imagine this could have been a problem for those who forswore alcohol and were consuming it unawares in a “tea.” I believe several of the analyses showed alcohol level as high as 3-4 % which is on a par with some American beers. The product returned reengineered and reformulated to the market in late November but I have found its replacement to be like a kind of Kombucha “lite.” It no longer has the same “bite” etc. or potency. Yet they charge the same and have not altered the labels. I believe it is less “bang for the buck” although they do seem to have satisfied the inspectors. Is this something you would care to comment on or discuss on your blog?
Respectfully,
Philippe P. Bloch

p.s. Keep up the good work and high spirits! Best again, Philippe

February 17, 2011 at 1:52 amhey! i just read your reply to the NYT piece on runner’s high (endocannabinoids. hmm!). i was wondering whether you’ve ever heardof or experienced a “walker’s high” — my knees can’t handle running, but if a fast walk could make me feel floaty and relaxed, then i’d be willing to dig up ye olde sneakers. ๐
thanks for any insights!
